Making Paper!

Today we worked on learning how paper is made by using paper form the teacher's work room. First we shredded the paper into tiny pieces, then added water and squished all the water into the paper, blended it with a blender, and finally poured the contents over a window screen for it to dry. We were AMAZED!!! Below are pictures of us shredding the paper and squishing it after we added water.

Here is our focus wall for the next three weeks!

We change our number, shape, literacy skills (parts of a book) and color every three weeks. We do however change the letter each week and the bucket filling focus every month. What is shown is what we are focusing on learning to help us meet our end of the year benchmarks. We review and talk about these goals everyday at school. If you are curious of our end of the year goals for your child I have listed them below. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

End of the year goals! We can do it!!!!! :)
We want to be in the yellow by the end of the year. Not right away this takes time and patience.  :)
The Pre-Emergent, Emergent, and Developing at the top of the table help us see the progression as the year goes on.
IF we meet our goals early, we will continue our learning with writing words/sentences, drawing detailed pictures, adding, and sight words. This can be a student by student basis or as a whole group. If you have questions about this just let me know.

Thanks for helping us success this year in 4K!

We went on a tree hunt!

Today after reading a nonfiction story about trees we learned how to draw a tree in our journals. We started with drawing a line across the bottom of the paper for the ground, drew a seed with roots shooting down into the soil. We then drew the tree trunk and branches out of rectangles! After adding leaves we made a sun so the tree can make food and the sky that reaches from the top of the picture all the way down to the ground. This was hard work!!!

After doing that we needed to go outside and walk around the building to count the number of tree trunks that we can touch. They only counted if we can touch their trunks. We ended up touching 20 trees!!! The pictures below are of us counting the trees and learning about leaves v.s. needles, why the trees need leaves, what happens in the winter time, we felt and observed the bark with various insects on it, and realized how important trees are for Earth and us! Enjoy the pictures!!!

We also got distracted by our little pumpkin patch in the back of the school.

Some pumpkins are HUGE!!!!

Below are pictures of our journal work.

Letter T Writing!

Today we learned about our first letter!!! Letter T! We write an uppercase T by saying, Long line down, line across. Pictures below are after a few minutes of hard work. I'm so proud of our friends!!! We have been doing a lot of self talk so far this year in school. We say things like, "I can't do it....YET, but I will try my best." and "I can do it!".
